MarcBrownGold has been in the food business since 1974. He started
washing dishes and unloading food trucks at his cousin’s catering company and was soon managing catering jobs throughout the Philadelphia area. After receiving his B.A. at Temple University in Philadelphia and having enrolled in masters classes at the university, he began working at his first restaurant, City Bites, owned by restaurateur Steven Poses.
His love for the restaurant business won out over his plan to pursue a post-graduate degree in psychology. He plunged into the restaurant business full-time working at other Poses restaurants and in other Philadelphia restaurants. In 1989 he moved to Bucks County with his wife and two children and joined the staff of Hamilton’s Grill Room as Executive Chef/General Manager.
After 5 years he left Hamilton’s and opened his own gourmet market/catering business with his wife, Theresa. Five years later they opened the restaurant, JustEat by BrownGold, a 50 seat “bistro” featuring an open kitchen with a woodburning grill. It is here that Marc started to stock his kitchen with local produce and meat, and began looking for local sources for the supplies in his larder. In August of 2009 he sold his restaurant to take up the question, “What we are putting on our plate? How does it affect the environment, the economy and our health?”
